If you are aware Google is bothered about only three things on your site the HTML, the content of your blog and the links going out. CSS according to me is also a part of the HTML of your site. The basic HTML structure for the site is pretty simple and when done properly represents a site with good SEO and hence it also means higher ranking and higher traffic.
The first rule is never push things so hard that Google thinks that you are spamming it. In your HTML there are three tags H1 H2 and H3 tags which are used in successive order of their decreasing size. H1 should be used once and only once in the heading of your site. Next use H2 or H3 for the sub-topics. do not overuse the tags on the keyword as this will make Google feel that you are trying to spam it.
Next comes the links section. Generally it is better to give a link or two to your site or to other sites in order to give out proper information to the ones who visit your site. Remember giving links is also a part of SEO which should never be neglected. It is always advised to give links to the top guys in your niche in order to expect some help from the community of your niche.
The content as we all know is a very important part of the site. What is even more important is that the content and the links should be visible to the search engines. Most people think that it is better to keep the content to the left as Google will get the content first and the links to the other articles next. Others are of the opinion that if the links are kept first it can be made sure that Google indexes all the articles on your site in its database. Which one is more true is left up to Google to decide but as far as I know I have not seen much difference so far in either of the structure. I keep content to the left as it is more helpful to my blog visitors.
Some people are also of the opinion that making things bold makes some difference in the way search engine gives weight to the article. I have used this and am not finding it of much use. Even then I think it is always a good idea to make a few words bold as it gives a general idea about the article to both the user and may be even to the search engines. Use the comments section to give your views about the various HTML edits that you use to get more traffic.
